LIBERTY SCHOOL

The Liberty School District was formed about 1870 with 19 students. The school had been operating for several years, but the School District wasn't formed until August 3, 1874. The school was in the extreme NE corner of Section 4; about 100 yards above and to the east of the Scotts Valley Road, and 3/8 mile west of Scotts Creek. Some students were lost when the Glen Eden School District was formed from a part of the Liberty School District and part of the Blue Lakes School District on August 4, 1890. At one time Liberty District had only five pupils, while in 1881 there had been 26 pupils. It was voted to consolidate the schools on July 1, 1920, and the children then went to Lakeport. The land reverted to the original owners and the school building was torn down after a few years.

About 1895 the Rev. Winters came out every Sunday afternoon to hold church services in the Liberty Schoolhouse.
